Fruit Crumble

  • Crumble
    • 225g (8oz) plain flour
    • 100g (4oz) butter
    • 50g (2oz) unrefined Caster Sugar
  • Fruit Filling
    • 900g (2lb) prepared fruit
    • Apples (sliced)
    • Rhubarb (chopped into 1" chunks)
    • Blackberries
    • Plums (halved)
    • Gooseberries
    • Peaches (halved or quartered)
    • mixed or one type of fruit only
    • 175g (6oz) Unrefined Caster Sugar
    • 6 tablespoons water
Method

Central Heating & Freestanding Models: Set the oven thermostat to 190°C

  1. If using frozen fruit, place into a dish and place on the top of the Redfyre to thaw, don't the water from the recipe.
  2. Sift flour into a bowl, add butter and rub in with fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar
  3. Place fruit, sugar and water (if using) into oven dish. Add additional spices if you wish, depending upon fruit: if using apples, add a teaspoon of powdered cinnamon and a grating of nutmeg to the fruit; if using rhubarb, add a little (no more than 25g) of chopped stem ginger
  4. Sprinkle crumble topping over fruit (don't pack it down too tightly)
  5. Bake in oven as directed above until crumble topping is lightly browned and fruit tender
  6. Serve with custard, cream or ice-cream and enjoy!

Central Heating & Freestanding models: On shelf position 3 of the top oven

Classic & Universal Models: Place the solid shelf on shelf position 2 and bake on the grid shelf on position 4 of the roasting oven
