Devonshire Apple Scone

- Ingredients

- 225g (8oz) self raising flour
- 1 level tsp baking powder
- 50g (2oz) margerine
- 50g (2oz) caster sugar
- 1 cooking apple, peeled, cored and roughly chopped
- 150ml (0.25 pint) milk
- 2-3 tbsp demerara sugar
- Sift the floour and baking powder together into a bowl and rub in the fat until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the caster sugar, apples and the milk. Mix together - the mixture will be rather wet.
- Carefully turn out the scone mixture onto a greased baking tray, form in to a round.
- Scatter the demerara sugar over the tope and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Serve warm with custard or cream.
2 oven model: Bake on shelf position 3 of the roasting oven or place the solid shelf on shelf position 2 and bake on shelf position 4.
4 oven model: As above, or in the centre of the baking oven.
